SPRING time in an English vineyard

  • The start of the year.
  • An early Spring can be dangerous if we get late frosts.
  • Frost can damage the new shoots and lead to no crop.
  • One of the most beautiful times of year in the vineyards.
  • Arguably the best time for wine tasting and hotel stay
  • We hope for long sunny days with gentle winds and not too much rain.
  • The vines flower during Wimbledon fortnight..
  • The size of the crop is often dictated by the summer weather.
  • We are constantly trimming the long shoots and removing excess leaves.
  • A good autumn will help ripen the grapes.
  • Warm days and cool nights trigger the ripening process.
  • Ripe fruit will make the best wine.
  • The quality of the fruit is much more important than quantity.
  • Harvest is expected to start in September, but there are no guarantees…
  • The crop has been picked and is fermenting in the winery.
  • The vines are resting but we have a lot of work to do.
  • Pruning is a vital part of the vineyard year.
  • Everything must be ready for the spring which is just around the corner.
